A zoning permit is the Town's approval for a proposed use or development. Setbacks, lot configuration, parking, landscaping, and stormwater are reviewd. Any of the following activities require a zoning permit:
Interior work that does not change the use of a property, cause an increase in land disturbance, and does not change the footprint of a structure does not requre a zoning permit, but may require a building permit.
Building, electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Inspections are handled through the Granville County Inspections department.
To apply for a zoning permit for the Town of Butner, please follow the instructions provided below:
1. Fill out an application:
Zoning Permit - Including new development, fences, accessory structures, new businesses
Temporary Use Permit - Including food trucks, temporary sales, and solicitor applications
2. Obtain a plot plan
Plot plans are maps showing proposed development. Surveys, plats, or a print-out of a lot using
Granville County GIS can be a base.The development must be clearly depicted on the plan with
distances in feet from the property lines, and/or any other structures.
3. Create an account on our
Online Portal.
This must be approved by staff before you may continue.
4. Create an application - Attach the pdf application and a site plan to the permit request.
5. Review - staff will submit any comments that will need to be addressed.
6. Payment - once approved, a payment may be made utilizing the portal.
